A guilt-by-association plus structural-homology hypothesis; the molecular function (electron transfer to KshAB) remains experimentally undemonstrated, so the verdict is kept 'dark'. The fold is that of a CoA-transferase beta subunit (eggNOG COG2057), which is why the earlier annotation stopped at 'CoA-transferase subunit beta' — but the characterised activity of the IpdAB complex is ring cleavage, not CoA transfer. Our own structural layer settles it: TM 0.989 on the solved M. tuberculosis IpdAB (PDB 6con) and TM 0.983 on the Rhodococcus jostii IpdAB (6co6). IpdAB was shown to be a cholesterol ring-cleaving hydrolase and a virulence factor of Mtb (Crowe et al. 2018). Family assigned
