Microproteome (non-canonical smORFs)
A separate track of small proteins whose existence is experimentally supported but which the H37Rv annotation excluded. These are not counted among the 3906 canonical genes or the dark stock. Each is classified by genomic geometry against the reference CDS set (not the source label): intergenic (a novel locus), antisense (opposite strand of a known gene), or same-strand overlap (an alternative reading frame within a known gene). Existence supported; function unknown. Three orthogonal sources: mass-spectrometry compendium (de Souza et al., Sci Rep 2024), VapC4 ribosome-stalling proteogenomics (Troian et al., Nucleic Acids Res 2026), and ribosome-profiling translatome (Smith et al., eLife 2022; confident subset with MS or coding-signature support).
