mcr3 MTB000064
ncRNA Putative small regulatory RNA
This is an RNA, not a coding gene: it belongs to a separate track and carries none of the protein evidence layers.
Location
1471619–1471742 (+ strand), 124 nt, on H37Rv
(NC_000962.3).
Intergenic (no overlapping coding sequence).
Upstream neighbour Rv1315
(42 bp).
Downstream neighbour Rv1316c
(5392 bp).
Intra-MTBC variation
| Genomes surveyed | 145,209 |
| Variable sites | 114 |
| Variants reaching 0.1 % of genomes | 2 |
| Carriers of the most widespread variant | 144,414 |
Coverage control
Variant density inside this RNA: 91.9 sites/100 bp, versus 57.6 in the flanking ±500 bp (GC 46.0 %). The flanks act as an internal witness: if variants are called normally around the RNA but none becomes widespread inside it, the constraint is real rather than a sequencing gap.
Verdict: n/a (a des variants communs)
Predicted secondary structure
61.3 % of bases are paired in the minimum-free-energy fold (76 paired, 48 unpaired). Folded in isolation; the in vivo structure may differ (partners, co-transcriptional folding).
Literature name not searchable
Verified false positive: a text search for 'mcr3' returns exactly one paper, and it is not about this sRNA: 'Association analysis of melanocortin 3 receptor polymorphisms with the risk of pulmonary tuberculosis' — MCR3 there denotes the melanocortin-3 receptor (MC3R), an unrelated human gene. Same trap as mpr5/mmpR5 (P16.21d): a short name collides with an unrelated symbol.
Read with care. Neither studied nor unstudied: the name collides with an unrelated symbol, so a hit count would be a false positive and a raw zero was never observed (one hit exists, just not about this gene).
Sweep: tbmonitor TB corpus (~330k PubMed abstracts), single grouped UNION-ALL sweep of 2026-08-17 over the 72 ncRNA never previously searched; positive controls MTS2823 (6 papers), mcr11 (3), mcr7 (2) all returned their known hits, so a zero here is a measured absence and not a broken query.
Legacy record
